Seeds planted in Mays have sprouted this rainy month of June! As part of the Nurturing Nature initiative — a component of B-FBC’s Neighbourhood Project — Amy L. has created a set of two beautiful signs at each end of the community garden we are caring for in Vimy Ridge Park. Many thanks to Amy and Gordon for affixing the panels, which let folks know about our Treaty relationship and that this garden is intended to provide food for the community, with any unclaimed veggies going to Harvest Manitoba. This year’s crop includes: chives (now ready for culling! help yourselves!), garlic (provided by last year’s gardeners), potatoes (likely ready by mid-August), as well as onions and carrots (not ready for a few months, yet). Many thanks to VVG co-ordinators Jade and Roxane for their facilitating this project for the Broadway-First faith community!

Many thanks to VVG co-ordinators Jade and Roxane for their facilitating this project for the Broadway-First faith community! As part of the Nurturing Nature initiative launched this month — a component of B-FBC’s Neighbourhood Project — four intrepid members of our church family headed out to do a community clean-up in Wolseley. Amy, Peggi, Sheila and Raymond, admirably equipped with gloves, pickers, garbage and recycling bags, made their way down Honeyman and spent time in Vimy Ridge Park. There they admired budding crocuses and a visiting Sheltie, whose owner provided more details on the cooperative group that gardens there. Among the 22 raised beds, there are two additional large community beds, one of which has been bequeathed to Broadway-First to grow vegetables for Harvest Manitoba and the community. Do you enjoy walking in the sunshine in this lovely neighbourhood? Then make plans to join us from noon till 1 p.m. the third Sunday of every month for a community cleanup. And stay tuned for more information on how you can lend a hand to plant, to water, to weed and to harvest our community garden at Vimy Ridge Park! Contact Raymond Sokalski for details.
